2018 Coonawarra Merlot

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The winter of 2017 in Coonawarra was cold and wet. This weather continued well into spring. The old Merlot vines benefited from the recharge in soil moisture as the remainder of the growing season was very dry and warm through to veraison. Once the berries began softening and changing colour in early March temperatures where relatively cool, influenced by the Southern Ocean providing extended hang time.
NOSE
Beautifully balanced on the nose with ripe plums and cherry with a hint of oak spice.
PALATE
A seductive palate of red fruits, blackberries and plums with lingering notes of tobacco leaf and spice which complement the fine grain tannins from the carefully selected oak regime. A medium weighted wine with exceptional balance of fruit, oak and acidity.
